Association football is one of the national sports of Scotland and popular throughout the country. There is a long tradition of “football” games in Orkney, Lewis and southern Scotland, especially the Scottish Borders, although many of these include carrying the ball and passing by hand, and despite bearing the name “football” bear little resemblance to association football, though over the years it has become a very popular sport in UK, even the bookmakers include it in their sportsbooks, offering pure online betting either from home.
Founded in 1873, Scotland has the second oldest national Football Association in the world (behind England’s FA), and the trophy for the national cup, the Scottish Cup, is the oldest national sporting trophy in the world. Scotland and Scottish football clubs hold many records for football attendances.

Many thanks to Tate & Lyle for giving us £100 toward club funds. In particular thanks to Malc\’ Braddick for contacting Tate & Lyle in the first place and suggesting that perhaps they would like to donate some of their money to our club. Also, many thanks to Tony Dean for buying a complete set of drinks bottles and container for Golspie Sutherland F.C.
7 A-Side Mini Soccer Tournament
Golspie Sutherland F.C. are hoping to host a mini soccer tournament in May 2007 for under 8’s, 9’s & 10’s, inviting teams from the Shropshire Junior Sunday League to participate. In addition to the tournament, we intend to make it a family fun day out, by providing the sort of attractions seen at village fetes – such as stalls, competitions, bouncy castles, raffles, food etc. Based on the success of our presentation & fun day held earlier this year, the decision to include a football tournament next year; is primarily to give teams from the SJSL the opportunity to play each other in a group and final stage knock-out competition. We also consider this to be a good way of producing extra income. It is of the utmost importance that we can make this work, as the current situation regarding finances within the club, dictates that we have to generate more income, due to the ever increasing costs associated with running a junior football club. In order to get this off the ground we need volunteers. Golspie Sutherland F.C. Committee Members, Team Managers & Assistant Managers demonstrate huge commitment and give very freely of their time, therefore we would very much welcome additional help from parents/guardians or other members of nearby communities. We don’t have a monopoly on how to raise funds for Golspie Sutherland F.C., so we welcome any suggestions anyone might have. We are also very receptive to any local or national businesses interested in sponsoring one or more of our teams.

There is also a copy of the league fair play form and mini soccer match report form, which you can download. If you have any ideas for other useful information that could be placed on the site, please call or e-mail me. Regards Graham Cross
Baschurch U9 Pumas remain unbeaten!
Baschurch Pumas made it 3 wins from 3 games on Sunday. Following on from an away win at Market Drayton and a home win against Whitchurch, we found ourselves 4 -1 down at half time away to Shrewsbury Junior Colts. Despite the half time result, we were unlucky to be behind by 3 goals. In the second half Baschurch ran riot, scoring 4 goals and running out eventual winners at 5 goals to 4. Coaches GC & PV are at an age whereby we can do without this type of nail biter, but well done team, you were awesome!
We are looking to recruit some U7 players in readiness for next seasons U8 league. Several of the larger clubs in the Shrewsbury Junior Sunday League have U7 teams and play regular friendlies. If you or your child is interested, or you know of others who would like to become part of a football team, please contact us.
The year has been generally positive for Golspie Sutherland F.C.. We are playing on new pitches, with new goals and nets. There is a new arrangement for pitch maintenance, which is now provided by the council. We have had excellent results in the football (see other news). The fete was a great success and raised over £1000. Jerry Revans resigned as Chairman, Darren Lennon is taking over. Guy Hibberd is standing down as Secretary, a new secretary is urgently sought! Increased fees for 2005/2006. We have had to increase the fees for the annual registration for all categories by £5 for the season. This is necessary to help fund the maintenance of the new pitches. The club fees still represent excellent value for money and are much cheaper than other equivalent clubs in the area, so we hope you\’ll understand!
